The House and the Senate have both passed legislation to extend the Conrad State 30 J-1 Physician Program for an additional three years, until September 30, 2015. The bill, S. 3245 is now on President Obama’s desk for signature. We applaud Congress for this action, which will continue to bring foreign physicians to work in medically underserved rural and urban areas. However, there are several J-1 physician and H-1B physician enhancement provisions for which our firm advocated that were not enacted. Regardless, employers and J-1 Physicians can be assured that the program has at least three more years of life. Pederson Immigration Law Group Attorneys Jan Pederson and Alison Shurtleff were active in pushing for this legislation.
