Amidst all the gloom and the doom swirling around us, there is great news for J-1 physicians. On October 8, 2008, President Bush signed into law H.R. 5571/P.L. 110-362 which increases the FLEX 5 slots to FLEX 10 slots per year. |

On Friday, September 26, 2008, the United States Senate passed legislation reauthorizing the Conrad State 30 J-1 Physician Waiver Program. The bill, H.R. 5571, cosponsored by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (Democrat--CA) and Congressman Jerry Moran (Republican--Kansas) was passed by the House of Representatives on May 21, 2008. |

The Sanctuary organization asked both Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain to respond to the following questionnaire requesting each candidate's views on immigration. Senator Obama's responses are below and as of this posting, Senator McCain's responses had not been received.
Senator Obama supports measures which would increase the pool of skilled workers, such as high tech workers, as well as supports and an earned legalization program. He also supports a guest worker program.
