[Updated] Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced late Friday that Haitian citizens in America who qualify will be granted Temporary Protected Status and work permission. We will post the details shortly. We applaud this quick and effective action by Secretary Napolitano and President Obama to provide a home to Haitians in our midst whose lives were so cruelly devastated by the horrific earthquake. We would urge our readers to contribute as much money as they can to help the Haitian people suffering so tragically. We would also encourage our wonderful physician and health care worker clients to volunteer to go to Haiti to help save lives. Physicians, nurses and other medical personnel should contact either Doctors Without Borders or the International Red Cross if interested in going to Haiti to help. [Prior Entry] Unoffiical sources at DHS have indicated that DHS intends to grant Temporary Protected Status to many Haitians in the United States. This status would permit eligible Haitain citizens to live and work in the United States while the TPS status is in effect. It is expected that an official announcement will be made within the next few days. Updates and information about who eligibility criteria and procedures will be posted here. |
