Update on Haitian TPS! Print E-mail

[Update 1/20/2009] USCIS released a copy of the final signed rule on Haitian TPS in the Federal Register.
 
Haitians in the United States as of January 12, 2010 who have not been convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors or are inadmissible under security provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 (INS) such as genocide and terrorist grounds are eligible for Temporary Protected Status and work permission for 18 months.  The registration period will last for 18 months and application for the status must be made within 180 days of the publication of the official start date of the program in the Federal Register, which is expected to be published during the week of January 17, 2010. Applicants must prove presence in the United States since January 12, 2010; must prove Haitian nationality or that Haiti was the last place of permanent residence; file Forms I-821 and I-765 with filing fees.  Detailed information can be found at http://www.uscis.gov/
